Arch Bridges

These were the original "signature" bridges, constructed with aesthetics as well as functionality in mind, and meant to give a particular crossing distinction.

North Carolina

The Piedmont

  • Cramerton Railroad Bridge -- An early 1900s closed-spandrel arch bridge built by the Southern Railway that continues to carry trains.
  • Jackson Creek Road Bridge -- A small and graceful open-spandrel arch bridge over the Uwharrie River that has been bypassed and abandoned.

Virginia

  • Stony Ceek Bridge -- A beautiful concrete thru arch along US 1 in Southside Virginia.
